Phoenix Asian Makes Any Night of the Week Special!

I love last minute get togethers! There's usually little planning involved and low expectations. And on a Sunday night what can you really hope for when you've got work looming in on you the next day.

This past Sunday night, my daughter and I caught the 5:00 PM teen mass at our local church.
After mass, we decided to grab a bite to eat with our friend Patti and her lovely daughter, Danielle (who incidentally sang like an angel during Holy Communion).

It's always nice to spend some time with our beautiful daughters who are usually on the run with school and after-school sports and various sundry social activities. Our daughters are also strong-willed and naturally have their own mind and preferences about everything from food to fashion.

One restaurant we can always agree on is Phoenix Asian off of New Garden and Horsepen Creek roads. Since we've cut out eating out in our house big time because of budget and health, it had been quite a while since we'd visited Phoenix Asian.

We had a fantastic time! The service was friendly and unrushed. We all shared lettuce wraps (these are the best lettuce wraps in town even against P. F Chang's) and a big bowl of Won Ton Soup (these had exceptionally meaty dumplings and not your normal flimsy won tons). We also ordered beef Pad Thai and Hunan Chicken (a much lighter version than normally served at our take-out Chinese place). This was more than enough to feed us and two hungry girls. Plus we had leftover rice and chicken to bring home to Patti's husband who was glued to the TV watching his beloved Steelers.

I took a double take at the bill when it came in at just $40 and change. True, we all ordered waters and one jasmine tea, but that was the dinner bill for four people!

Some may argue that the hallmark of Asian food is the large portions and inexpensive prices. However, the authentic quality of the food at Phoenix Asian is quite superior to your local takeout joint and I'd have to say as good as, if not better, than Chang's and Taste of Thai on Mill Street. And I would contend that the upscale, softly lit ambience and attentive service at Phoenix Asian always makes me feel like I'm out celebrating a special occasion of some sort.

And in a way this was a special occasion. Since our daughters are seniors in high school and off to college next year, any time we can spend with them is special and cause for celebration!

  1. Okay now I'm crying. What a fun night. You are right we usually have to make an appointment to see them.

  2. Patti--What a lovely unexpected evening. There's something about that place that makes me feel like I'm not in Greensboro. (Not that there is anything wrong about being in Greensboro) And of course the company we keep is exceptional ...
